In pre-Hispanic thought, time was often understood as a fire—a force burning everything in its path. In this way, everything we do, everything we create, and everything we leave behind, is the residue—what is left—from the burning of time. This piece is a meditation on this, as I reflected upon my mortality and the mortality of my actions. Like the ashes of fire, we and our actions burn, float, and hopefully fertilize as the ashes of time.
